BANTEAY MEANCHEY: Senior Minister Kun Kim has called on the authorities of all provinces and cities across the country, especially the border provinces and Banteay Meanchey, to pay close attention to the weather and respond on time.
Senior Minister Kun Kim, the First Vice-Chairman of the National Committee for Disaster Management, led the National Technical Working Group, accompanied by provincial governor, Oum Reatrey, to inspect the flood situation due to rain in Teuk Chor commune, Preah Netr Preah district, Banteay Meanchey province on Wednesday afternoon, 28 September 2022.
The First Vice-Chairman of the National Committee for Disaster Management also confirmed that the water level was starting to gradually recede due to the easing of water from Oddar Meanchey province. However, then the floodwaters began to hit Banteay Meanchey province and caused severe damage in Teuk Cho commune, Preah Netr Preah district.
At the same time, the Senior Minister also visited residents of the commune and delivered emergency relief donations from the Prime Minister and First Lady for the elderly and 279 families who are affected.
According to the report of the Provincial Disaster Management Committee received by EAC News, as of 5 PM on Wednesday, 28 September 2022, the flooding situation in Banteay Meanchey province affected five out of nine cities/districts, including 26 communes / sangkats and 127 villages and a total of 7,536 families (34,178 affected people, including 17,452 women). Additionally, 318 families were evacuated (1,100 people, including 80 children), seven were recorded tro have drowned, and 2,595 animals were affected as well.
In regard to agriculture, 27,423 hectares of rice, 1,035 hectares of cassava and 103 hectares of mixed crops were affected. Additionally, 41 schools, 16 pagodas, three health centers and 296 roads with a total length of 177,506 meters, were also affected by the flooding.
